    Interview: Sep, 2012

    Joe ST

Can a misting burn the god-metal alloys of their metal? If not, do the god-metals even 'exist' if there are no full mistborn?

    Brandon Sanderson

There are metals which exist that any Allomancer can burn, regardless of their own orientation.

    Interview: Sep, 2012

    InsurrectionistFungus

Does aluminium have any effect on the other Allomantic metals aside from iron/steel and zinc/brass? If yes, does that include god metals and their alloys?

    Brandon Sanderson

    Yes and no.

    Interview: Sep, 2012

    Stroniax

Is there a way to harvest BioChromatic Breath from a planet, if it holds any? (If a person dies, and their body turns to dusty he dust of the earth, then doesn't the earth--or sharever planet they have--therefore hold thousands, if not millions, of BioChromatic Breaths?)

    Brandon Sanderson

Possible. It would be the same thing as harvesting the nature of Preservation or Ruin, which--on Scadrial--took the form of nuggets of metal.

    Interview: Aug 6th, 2014

    BlackYeti

Because you’ve talked about alloying the god metals, I was wondering whether you would be able to melt them down as you would with normal metals.

    Brandon Sanderson

If you could distill the god metal: you could distill it out of the mist, that’s theoretically possible.

    Interview: Oct 9th, 2015

    Question

The metals, the ones used in Allomancy, are they naturally occurring on Roshar?

    Brandon Sanderson

    Yes.

    Question

    And all the alloys too?

    Brandon Sanderson

Oh, all the alloys on Roshar… The magic of the metals, the metals are actually the key, so there is no power in the actual metal. You can use metals from other worlds. Metal is like a password.

    Interview: Feb 17th, 2016

    Question

Speaking of intents, Investiture, and what Shards can see, hypothetically if Odium were to go to Scadrial would some things not be visible to him, like, say, metal?

    Brandon Sanderson

Metal would be hard for him to see, yes.

    Interview: Feb 25th, 2016

    Question

As you were constructing the Allomantic powers revealed in the Wax and Wayne books, I was just curious why you chose cadmium and chromium to be metals.

    Brandon Sanderson

Well I picked them way back when I designed the magic system, and I wanted metals that would be easily recognizable but which wouldn't be commonly available in a medieval society, so that as society progressed it would make sense, they would have access to these new metals, if that makes sense. Aluminum was a little in that as well, but I like aluminum because they had it anciently, but very rarely. So it could be a more mythical metal.

    Interview: Feb 25th, 2016

    Question

There is a metal used to charge in the last Mistborn book, is that lithium?

    Brandon Sanderson

Ah, nnnnn... [Sounds like he's going to say "no" but then changes his mind] I'll dig into that, that's another RAFO. But I'm glad you're thinking along those lines. Let's just say that.

    Interview: Apr 23rd, 2016

    Question

Will iron… mined, created, mined on Roshar work to power allomancers on Scadrial? This is a qualification from earlier session...

    Brandon Sanderson

Um, okay, so what do you want to have happen, talk to me.

    Question

An iron is iron, does it have the same effect if it will be iron that was created on…

    Brandon Sanderson

Oh, I see what you’re saying… the metals are themselves… I’ve said this before, I think, but… the metals themselves, where you get it is not relevant.

    Question

So if say Wit is drinking flakes on Roshar, then those flakes could be Roshar-bought.

    Brandon Sanderson

    Yes.

    Interview: Dec 3rd, 2016

    yulerule

If an allomancer worldhopper really wanted to hack the magic system and knew what they were doing, could they get their hands on some Tanavast-ium or Rayse-ium or Egdli-um? Basically make god metals from the other shards?

    Brandon Sanderson

    Yes.
