An Hour With Harriet

2012-04-30: I had the great pleasure of speaking with Harriet McDougal Rigney about her life. She's an amazing talent and person and it will take you less than an hour to agree.

The Bell Tolls

2012-04-24: Some thoughts I had during JordanCon4 and the upcoming conclusion of "The Wheel of Time."

he Nature of the Wheel

Previous Categories: The Wheel of Time

I believe that Rand will probably win the last battle and then retire with his three sheilas and live out the rest of his life in paradise.

But this world is full of cycles and patterns and I believe that while the DO will be sealed away again (or replaced by Fain, but i wont go there now.) but he will once again counter strike, except this time he will 'burn-out' all of humanity including all channelers, stedding, and other products of the power.

The Ogier and Trollocs and other shadow spawn will either be wiped out through the Last Battle or will be killed in this backlash.

This would of course stuff humanity up for a while, as they have to deal with not only recovering from the last battle but they have to do it without the one power.

(This would solve the age gaps between the many lovers, in the series as well ;)

'Today' we are in the 7th or 1st age. The one power will be re discovered, maybe be cause a nuclear war ie genetic mutation. (Remember how Merk and Mork threw sticks of fire?). This lead to an age of discovery/development which either lead straight into the 2nd age (AoL), or (I prefer this option), there was an interim age in which the one power was used, abused, and then humanity finally built paraidse with it. As humanity does with most new toys it gets.

This then leads to the AoLs where everything is hunky-dory until they get a little to curious and then bang...

...and we all know the rest of the story...

PS RJ came up for this story in the 80s (I think?), so the Nuclear war thing was deffinitely a possibility.

I haven't seen this specific suggestion before; the DO's backlash destroys the connection of the OP to the world (I would suppose that would be how it would have to be done). But I thought the OP was integral in the turning of the Wheel? Are you suggesting the Wheel would be destroyed? It doesn't sound like it, so, how are you proposing that this backlash would function according to how the world is currently set up?

**I believe that Rand will probably win the last battle and then retire with his three sheilas and live out the rest of his life in paradise.

1. Rand will die in the Last Battle, we have had too many references and what is the point of having a super-herolike person alive after their purpose? Rand is a tool of the Pattern, once his use is done, he is done.

2. The DO cannot be replaced by Fain. Fain has a life, and a thread in the Pattern, and a soul. The DO is immortal and OUTSIDE the Pattern.

3. If the DO can burn out the ability of every channeler in the world, why not do it in the AoL? Because he can't. And we are in every Age and in none; why? Because the wheel is FAKE. It is made up. Our history is influences on it.

No he simply 'stills' the earth, the one power would still exisit, but humans wouldn't beable to tap it.

ie he would burn out the ability to channel.

This, I believe is the only way humans will lose the ablilty to channel as even if humans do 'forget' about wilders will still pop up and be able to channel.

You say why didn't he 'still' the earth during the AoL.

Then you might as well ask why doesn't he retaint Saidin or even Make Saidair tainted.

Either it takes alot of effort and he only does these massive counter-strikes when it is clear that he has lost, and he just wants to screw up humnaity for the next 3,000 years.

OR

He can't do at all, unless something special is happening ie he is being re-sealed or something.

**Then you might as well ask why doesn't he retaint Saidin or even Make Saidair tainted.**

And RJ said in an interview that if women had been present at the Strike, saidar would've been tainted too. This tells us 2 things:

1. The method of sealing (the seals) is what caused saidin to be tainted.

2. The CK sealing of the DO, which is probably what will occur in the Last Battle, would've almost certainly worked.

So, no, the DO can't still everyone with the ability to channel in the world; he can't effect it to that great a degree yet. And, it would be pointless to. If he stilled everyone, a new person born with the spark would channel anyway in about 20 years. Hence the rebirth of channeling, and a waste of effort on the DO.

And, if the DO does have this awesome power to effect oh so much of the world, why just still people? Why not just use that power to turn almost every channeler in the world to the Dark with Mindtraps and then go kill everyone? HE CAN'T YET OR AT ALL!

The seven ages can't be that simple. The Trollocs and Myrrddraal can easily be destoryed, we know wherethey come from, just like the Nym. But if your theory is that the Ogier are destroyed and never created again, then that's not very cyclical.

And if the Ogiers were created in our Age or the beginning of the AoL (like the Portal Stones) then you'd think with their ilfespans and love of history then they'd remeber their own creation at this point in the story.

Ogiers couldn't be created in your hypothetical ageof abuse of the power either it seems, because they grow food andare peaceful and just don't seem like something an abuser of the OP would create.

And Ogier seem related to steddingwhich are related to the OP, so I think they are integral to the discovery.

Also the world needs another physical breaking before our time comes, look at the continents, they are all wrong! I think that requires the OP.
