erhaps the Prophecies

Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: Who is Tam al'Thor?

As we've seen Rand is ironically related to many people in Jordan's world. The house Trakand ,the Maidens ... . It would make sense that Rands adoptive mother should also be Aes Sedai. It seems quite Jordanesque. There fore considering Tams sword ,the flame and void, and his surviving an attack by 10 trollocs in book 1,it is assumable that Tam was a warder. Perhaps his wife knew of the prophecies and took Rand west to hide and grow up. Green ajah? Married to Tam this seems likely as well. Thank you I dont expect to be posted but the relation idea should be.

We can't discount the possibility that this was so...Tam said to Rand that he paid possibly to high a price for the heron marked sword, Tam knew of Aes Sedai promises. He let his only son leave with one. There are facts there that speak of a comprehension of Aes Sedai that few have.

I would agree. I was planning on posting a theory along those same lines but it looks like you beat me to it. Though I don't think Rands step-mother was AS. As the Tamyrlin has already stated, that would have made it too easy for Moiraine to find Rand. I think Tams AS died before Tam found Rand. This also helps to support my theory of Tam as a Warder. If he was a Warder, he would have known the Prophecies. If he truely believed the child he found on Dragonmount could be the Dragon Reborn, that could easily have given him a reason to go on living after his AS kicked.
