ulling the Ability

Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: Is it all a White Tower Scheme?

Well, I read some of the white tower scheme theories, and you had said that what the Red's do, is close to the DO's plan, as far as killing men who can channel to cull the ability to channel in all people. I think thats wrong.

The part that by killing men who can channel is destroying the ability for children to be born with the ability in them. First, pre-POD , what about Rand and his Asha'man? If the ability is being lost because of the hunting of men who can channel, why are there so many men who can now channel? Looking at post-POD, at the end of the book, after Egwene opened the novice roll book to all ages, look how many women can be taught to channel now?? more novices than ever imaginable. Which makes me believe that the ability to channel is not genetic, but part of the pattern, being that the pattern picks out, or assigns if you will, those who will be able to channel.

As for the inborn spark, assigned also. With post-POD we realize that the loss of finding the ability in women to channel is not from culling the ability, but from the White tower not finding the women who can channel, as they did in the past. Its only a problem of Randland proper not finding all women who can channel that is. Aiel find every last woman who can channel, so do the Sea folk. Seanchan do too, and we can inferr that the people from Shara find every last one also.

First. The problem with your supposition above about culling the ability in men is that we don't have the figures on how many 'would have been able to channel'. The important part is not that they have found so many men who can learn, it is the inborn spark that I really believe has been diminished. Its the genetics argument that I am talking about. If your parents don't have the ability, not even recessively then you will not have the inborn spark. So if you can gentle(which eventually kills) all the men you can find who can channel then it will cull the inborn spark from materializing. How many men in the past five years have awoken the world with their spark? And remember I didn't say that the Reds has succeeded, only that they had tried. If you gentle or kill all male channelers then who will stand at Tarmon Gaidon, I can almost assure you that this was one of the DO's plans for the BA.
