iming For the White Tower

by Richard Bailey: 1998-07-21 | Not yet rated

Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: Where will the next Seanchan attack occur?

Egwene dreams of a long line of women who wore Great Serpent rings that are collared by the Seanchan. So, there has to be a battle where a significant number of Aes Sedai are captured and the Seanchan must be victorious in that battle in order to carry away captives and use their talents later. Egwene in the same dream sees the chained Aes Sedai being forced to call lightning against the White Tower. I am assuming that this means thatthey are attempting to either breach the walls of Tar Valon or have entered the city proper and are actually trying to gain entrance into the White Tower. Remember that the White Tower is as far east as you can go without going over the Dragonwall. So, for this to happen the Seanchan will havecross almost the entire continent to have at the Tower(unless one of the captured Aes Sedai knows how to travel). This trek will obviously cause each ruler whose land is crossed to attempt to stop the Seanchan. Now, we know that Rand is the new ruler of most of the southeastern territory and judging from the synopsis of book 8 and its cover it appears that Rand gathers his forces todo battle with the Seanchan. We have a prophecy that Rand and other male channelers are hurling lightning and fire in Cairhien. Since Rand is the ruler there we have to assume that he is fighting some invasion of his territory(TarValon is just above Cairhien). Now another dream has Matt vanishing and Rand wearing rags, a rough cloak, and a bandage over his eyes. This could verywell be the result of Rand's first defeat. Of course there are many other reasons this could happen but I thought that it might be time for Rand to experience a bloody nose before he either beats the Seanchan and a treaty of some sort is signed or until Mat binds the Nine Moons to Rand.

I agree. The Seanchan will at some time attack the White Tower, and that prophecy about Rand and the other male channelers hurling lightning and fire in Cairhien would probably coincide very well. I think Book 8 will be a book of wars, and more choas internally in both camps. I am glad you pointed this out.

In the end of the Chapter "Seeds of Shadow" in the Beginning of The Shadow Rising, the High Lady Suroth is questioning a captured Aes Sedai about how the White Tower controls the Dragon Reborn (Rand), and the Aes Sedai, incapable of lying, cannot say how (By the way, the Seanchan do have the Dragon Reborn in their mythology, because of this chapter--the High Lady Suroth thinks of him as the possible Dragon Reborn). She thinks how dishonorable it would be to sail back to Seanchan, and admit defeat to the Empress. She would 'lose face' (see Robert Jordan's Guide to the Wheel of Time). Therefore, she regroups the forces that fled from Falme, and is planning to attack again. It is not entirely clear, but I think that the Seanchan that are still attacking the mainland continent (Randland) are still the Forerunners. Therefore, they aren't as strong as we are led to believe--no reinforcements (because Suroth is still in control when she takes over the Children of the Light, and she is hoping that the Empress won't send a replacement with reinforcements to take her place in "Seeds ofShadow". So, the still large army of the Seanchan that is (as Mosleth pointed out) splitting, one group aiming for the White Tower, the other, up around Perrin, near Ghealdan, will be, if not easily, then inevitably beaten back by the 'hordes of veiled savages' that Rand has in his pocket. This is my own personel theory--Suroth thinks that the Empress might send over another of the Blood to lead the Corenne. Well, maybe that leader was the general for the invasions in Ebou Dar, and maybe she is the Daughter of the Nine Moons (Idoubt this, but it would be cool). The main problem with this, however, is that the Daughter of the Nine Moons isn't known to the Seanchan (we know this from the epilgoe of the Lord of Chaos, where the Seanchan foward scout, surveying Ebou Dar, thinks of Mats curse involving the Daughter of the Nine Moons, and reasons that 'if she was coming, then the Light would surely grant them victory.' So, if the Daughter of the Nine Moons _is_ Seanchan, then my theory would be pretty nifty, but (as the Tamyrlin theorizes) the Daughter of the Nine Moons is Sea Folk, or some other countries production, then Robert Jordan sucks, because I want my theory to work.
