Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: Rand and the Last Battle

I got to thinking about this Rand dying and all. I still hold onto my belief that Fain will become the new DO and that Rand will kill the currently ruling DO. After all Fain seems to be stronger and "grown" more every time we see him.

The problem that I have with my own theory is that the DO is, for all intents and purposes, a deity. Rand is just a man.

Here's the thought. What if Rand dies (as we know he will) by some vaguely mundane means and in death goes and defeats the D0? Remember that death is the realm of the DO. It's mentioned several times in the early books. Is it not traditional that the hero takes it to the bad guy's home turf tofinish him off?

So I'm thinking he defeats the DO in death and some guy channeling balefire vaporizes the guy who killed Rand bringing Rand back to life. Or Nynaeve brings him back from the dead. I kind of like that idea. Anyway... What do y'all think?

This thought kind of reminds me of Raistlin Majere. I don't know that RJ is going to go to such lengths to defeat the DO. I don't see it being Rand vs. DO, more Rand vs. the Minions and the Bore. Just what I think.
