san'gar and Aran'gar

Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: Miscellaneous Theories

Ok, I've been trying to figure out who Osan'gar and Aran'gar are. First off, they are both male (I think there's been some debate on this point. They both channel saidin. When they are brought back it is so that they can absolve their errors. For this reason I beleve that they are Be-lal and Ishamael. Those two have probably made the biggest blunders as forsaken (except perhaps Rhavin and Asmodean). But Rhavin is beyond recall of the DA (Shadar Haran's own admission). Neither of the two exhibit any of Asmodean's traits. the only other's they could be are the two forsaken rand originally thought, and I don't know enough about them to make a guess.

Most of the theories I have heard dealing with these characters tend to lean towards Bathamel and Aginor if I am not mistaken.

Be'lal: 1998-08-18

And for everyone arguing over Arangar and Osangar (sp?), err, both use Saidin, one is a woman, one a man. Not the other way around. I thought it was pretty obvious that the man was Aginor and the woman Balthamel. The man thinks about how he made shadowspawn, and the woman is vain, mad about being a woman, big joke... That one is a no-brainer.

I agree with you that they are probably forsaken, but I don't think that they are Be'lal and Ishy (thoses were the two you listed, right?) and I beleive that Ishy (Ba'alzamon) was killed by bailfire. It seems that someone ripped out of the pattern can not be resurected. My belief is that they were (oson'gar) Arigor and (Aran'gar) Balthamel, because they died at almost exactly the same time, and were brought back at the same time. To further support this Aginor was the person who created trollocs and says that he has a distinct distaste for Myrdraal (while being proud of trollocs), which oson'gar feels the same way. I don't think that any human in the third age has bred trollocs ( I beleive that is done by other trollocs and Myrdraal). More evidence to this is that aran'gar has a male touch, channels saidin, no female forsaken have died, osan'gar recognizes the names (o'gar and a 'gar) as a jousting technique, and lastly he also finds his body suitable for some type ofdance ! that is (was) from the age of legends. I don't have exact page numbers but most of it is from pages 160-200 LoC and a bit at the prologue and chapter 27 (I think) CoS.

Knight of Deep Shadows: 1998-09-09

First off, I agree that all the evidence indicates that Osan'gar and Aran'gar are reincarnations of Aginor and Balthamel. My question is: Why them? They never did much in the series, and between Someshta, Rand, and Moiraine, they went down easy. They died too fast, if you ask me, and that's one of the reasons that no one cares to see them back. NO ONE LIKED THEM, and I think that's one of the resons that everybody tries to come up with a different, workable theory on this. NO ONE wants to see those two come back. So, why DID RJ have the DO ressurect them? Any ideas?
