Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: Miscellaneous Theories

Fain will kill Rand at Tarmon Gaidin. If you notice all of the references to Tolkien, you realize some simple things:

-Padan Fain = Gollum
-Ogier = Those weird tree people
-Ruby Dagger = Ring
-Saidin = Ring
-Rand/Mat/Perrin = Frodo/Bilbo
-Lan = Strider
-Sauron = Shai'Tan (similar names)

And the list goes on. With such similar characters, it only figures that the plot will be reasonably similar.

The Ending (skip ahead if you don't want it spoiled) Rand will go to Shayol Ghul, knowing he must die to win, like Frodo with the Ring. But when Rand gets there, he will realize he doesn't want to do and challenge the Dark One (OnePower is very strong at Shayol Ghul like Ring) much like Frodo with theRing. The Dark One will crush Rand's feeble attempt, and Rand will be almost Converted Then out jumps Fain, whose hatred toward Rand is much like Gollum's toward Bilbo/Frodo. Fain will then procede to kill Rand quickly, much as Gollum bites off the finger of Frodo. Then The DO annoyed at losing will lash out and kill Fain, in his pettiness. That is the future as I see it and it seems logical, I think.

If this turned out to be a Tolkien novel at the end I think everyone and their dog would be utterly destroyed...my guess is RJ knows this and is going to get as far away from that ending as possible.
