An Hour With Harriet

2012-04-30: I had the great pleasure of speaking with Harriet McDougal Rigney about her life. She's an amazing talent and person and it will take you less than an hour to agree.

aidal Cain is the third voice

by free will: 2003-10-13 | 2 out of 10 (8 votes)

Previous Categories: Who is the other person in Rand's head?

I don't actually believe the theory myself, but here goes.

Birgette and Gaidal Cain are all messed up because Birgette was torn out (and early). Rand is "suspectable" because he was travelling to TAR in the flesh, making it possible for ANOTHER soul to come back with him (I believe LTT and Rand have the same soul so that before traveling to TAR in the flesh he only had one soul in his body).

Gaidal Cain is young, recently in TAR and wants to be in a grown-up body, and preferably a heroic one (he wants to be compatible with Birgette). Rand being in TAR in the flesh gives opportunity.

Motive and opportunity make it a possibility we have to consider before we dismiss it, and it might work out, since ELayne has bonded Rand AND Birgette, maybe they can get Gaidal Cain and Birgette together through the bond. So that implies why/how RJ might have written it that way.

Gaidal Cain? I am not sure what Rand's trips to T'A'R have to do with soul merging. Egwene goes to T'A'R, Perrin goes, all of the Forsaken seem to make the trip. We have been given no indication that going to T'A'R would allow a soul to be stuffed in someone's body. You could try to argue that Finnland resides in the Unseen World and that they had something to do with the Isam, but that is a long shot. C'mon, you don't really believe this do you? ;)

Two words: No way.

I just don't see it.

Of course, if you've read my post in the "Are there any real voices in Rand's head" then you know that I think the third voice is of the "Dragon" previous to LTT. And although I haven't said it yet, I'm in the "GC ss Olver" camp. (Too many references about how homely Olver is, then how homely GC was, then how much Birgitte seems to adore Olver. again, and again and again.)

Sorry to burst your bubble, then again, you did say that you didn't believe it either...

I agree in thoery, but NOT in what I think RJ whould write. Also why would GC, a HotH steal another Heros body? He would be thrown out of TAR, and have Dragon ranting at him for a couple of ages.

As you, I don't believe it.

Actually, I think the evidences we have point to Moridin being the 3rd man.

The most important point is that Rand seeing the 3rd man's face started after Moridin's and Rand's balefire incident in Shadar Logoth (ACoS).

LTT seems to know the person and says he is also a destroyer (Ishy is e.g. the "Destroyer of Hope").

Also Rand thinks that the face is vaguely familiar.

This fits with Moridin's face which Rand sees only one time.

Furthermore we have a scene which points to Moridin in CoT.

Finally it makes surely more sense for the plot if the 3rd man is Moridin and not Cain.

Thus the third man is most likely Moridin in my view.

Wow is really all i have to say however i do have to say where it has been said before the 2 soul theory is out debunked i belive by RJ himself there is absolutly not basis for the line of thought as for who GC is i think i will start my own faction for apathy of who GC is and be done with it as so man have for the death of Asmo

Dragon, I would just like to point out..I am the Betrayer of Hope...not Destroyer. Thanks for playing..please drive through..

Dragon: 2003-10-19

Ishamael,

Yes, sorry. Sammael was the Destroyer of Hope.

Anyway, Ishamael is responsible for some of the greatest wars in the last few thousend years. So he is a Destroyer.

I don't see any good evidences that the third man is the first Dragon.

Thus it seems to be Moridin.

I don't think the third man is Moridin. That would make sense if he was appearing to Rand in his dreams like he did as Ba'alzamon but not for him to be a voice in Rand's head.

I tend to believe the theory that he is another dragon either from before LTT or the one after Rand. Maybe each dragon has the voice of the dragon before and after him in his head. Which is why LTT sometimes seems to think Rand is in his thoughts instead of vice versa.

It is very exciting idea Morridin being the "3d voice" ... but all we know about this person (never been voice in Rand's head if I'm not wrong) is from LTT's comment and LTT is speaking about him not in the way he could speak about an prominent enemy but in the way to speak about persons with similar objectives, similar story and the same side.

I don't know if this really adds to any arguements but:

**TITLE: Eye of the World, CHAPTER: 24 - Flight Down the Arinelle

He found himself staring at the reflection of his own face, pale and shivering in the knife-edge cold. Ba'alzamon's image grew behind his, staring at him; not seeing, but staring still. In every mirror, the flames of Ba'alzamon's face raged behind him, enveloping, consuming, merging. He wanted to scream, but his throat was frozen. There was only one face in those endless mirrors. His own face. Ba'alzamon's face. One face.**

No, it's SAMMAEL that was BETRAYER of hope. when Rand's thinking about Sammael, he says something like, "I remember when he was named betrayer of hope. When he betrayed whats-the-name-of-that-place, it certainly seemed like that."

No, maybe Sammael was DESTROYER of hope. Both would fit equally. However, that badguy appearing to LTT in prologue of TEOTW was BETRAYER OF HOPE. If we're all agreed that that was Ishamael,....

BABFA! (acronym of WoT swear words) I'm bloody confused by now!

13

Callandor: 2003-12-13

Ishamael means "Betrayer of Hope" in the Old Tongue. Sammael means "Destroyer of Hope".

brother of Battles: 2004-10-29

You know, it would be interesting to know what all the names of the Forsaken mean.

Ishy=Betrayer of Hope

Sammael=Destroyer of Hope

Lanfear=Daughter of the Night

Moridin=Death or Grave

Osangar/Arangar=Left-Right handed daggers

Cyndane=Last Chance

So, what do the rest of the Forsaken's names mean? I kinda think it would be interesting to know.

maharbry: 2005-03-23

I believe Moghedien means spider.

16

Asmodean: 2005-03-24

haha..Gaidal Cain is NOT the third voice...so lets put this thread to and end and focus on others..shall we?

17

Aiel Finn: 2005-03-24

Moghedien doesn't mean spider, it is a type of spider, I think that the meaning of Grenedal's name is in the BWB but I'm not sure.
