ompliance through annoyance?

by Therilon: 2002-11-15 | Not yet rated

Previous Categories: What do the colors that the ta'veren see mean?

Maybe Thanatos is correct. Annoyance can lead to them going back together. From what I have read this does not seem likely. I believe that the reason for the colours are 'static' from the pattern. In book 4, all of the T'V had to force themselves away from each other. They might have stretched the pattern and this could be static or feedback from the pattern.

I find it significant that Moiraine always dwelled upon the fact that the Pattern would force the T'V into their path. With the stretching of the pattern when they forced themselves away, they might have slipped out of thier destinies, or rather, the most likely path for them to follow.

Think of the T'V as magnets. The closer they get to one another the harder it is to pull away. Also, when the T'Vs are closer the combined pull of the Ta'verinness (can someone tell me the correct word?) increases almost expedentially. They have a strong pull on a larger number of people. When they are apart the combined pull is less, so they have a weaker pull on a smaller number of people. Because of the lesser effect, the pattern might be trying to pull them into a place where it can affect the right people to forward the 'plot'.

The idea of balance is good. If the T'Vs are out of balance, albeit in a good way, the colours could counter that, and try to annoy them into going where they want. Although the colours do not push, have you ever had an itch that annoyed you so much that you want to scratch it? The itch 'makes' you scratch it by being annoying. It doesn't cause pain, it... itches. The T'V might 'scratch' the colours by going together.

If the colours are interference then it could be caused by the T'V going into Finnland, which warped the pattern further (like reading a strategy guide, only both the strategy guide and the game are omnipotent and try to fool the reader) and caused this interferance.

I guess I disagree with what the Pattern, if that is what is causing it, is asking them to comply with. Since when they try to think of each other, they get annoyed, then I don't think it wants them together right now...unless they are just reading it wrong.

I don't think the Pattern can be warped. There's a quote at the end of PoD that hints so: "They planned, and the Pattern absorbed their plans, weaving toward the future foretold." Also, it stands to reason that finnland is a part of the Pattern, just as the Pattern seemed to be in control of what was happening in the Portalstone world in tGH.

I agree that Rand, Mat and Perrin are like magnets. The synergistic effect when all are together, hits upon a pet theory, i.e. What is the necessity of Mat and Perrin? I don't think Rand can channel to Shayol Gul. Or at least he won't, to get there.

I don't believe the colors stands for annoyance, or the Pattern driving them back together. But it has something to do with Min's viewing of the sparkles or lights getting sucked into the blackness when she has a viewing of either of them.

From Winter's Heart, page 337:

"Once Egwene realized those stark raving mad Aes Sedai who had named her Amyrlin did not really mean it, Talmanes and the Band of the Red Hand were ready to spirit her away. Light, Elayne might be wearing the Rose Crown by now, if he knew her! Rand and Perrin probably were lolling in front of a fire in some palace, swilling wine and telling jokes.

He grimaced and rubbed at his forehead as a faint rush of colors seemed to swirl inside his head. That happened lately whenever he thought about either man. He did not know why, and he did not want to know."

I think the colors correlate with the sparkles or lights that Min sees, especially since the lights grew stronger and appeared to "win" against the darkness when all three were together.
