aim Trapped in a Nasty Weave

Previous Categories: Who is Demandred?

A thought just occurred to me. What if Demandred is using Taim, trapping him in a weave like the one that Sammael used to try and reach a truce with Rand? Maybe this is why the Black Ajah/Shadow wanted to rescue Taim from the clutches of Aes Sedai. Maybe they used a weave that made Taim and Demandred so alike that they had the same mannerisms and the same dominating prescence. Demandred, a general second only to Lews Therin in the War of Power would not have been captured by the Aes Sedai of this time because they are not skilled enough and the Dark One would not be as pleased with Demandred as he seems to be. He himself is too skilled. Maybe the Forsaken realize that there is more to Rand than meets the eye, as he has shown tendencies to act like Lews Therin and to say things that only those from the Age of Legends would know. Any of the Forsaken spies close to him would speak of this to their superiors and Moridin/Ishamael is one clever enough to notice this. When Asmodean was killed he recognized his murderer. Maybe it was the first time Demandred decided to use his proxy Taim. Maybe a test to see if he would pass the look-alike test. Taim may just be Taim, but trapped in a weave that leaves Demandred in control of his bodies and actions. Letting Taim work out in the open while he is safe out of the view of everyone else. After all, who is to say what skills the Forsaken have with their knowledge of the One Power? This may be another one of the nasty weaves that Asmodean was talking about. It could be. It is possible. Just a thought.

Do we know what Sammael's weave would have been capable of? What you are suggesting is interesting, but if we don't have the information, than we are making a weave that we don't know is even possible. It seems more reasonable that Taim has either been turned or works for the DO...just mho.

I was actually thinking something similar. What if Taim is not a darkfriend but has been the victim of compulsion. We know that Dashiva was one of the first Asha'man tested and he was really a forsaken in disguise. He could have been using compulsion all along. I actually don't believe this so I'm not going to make a theory out of it but it's a possibility.

Since Demandred seems to think he's very smart, I wouldn't be surprised if he found Taim, killed him and is now masquerading as him. To hide himself from Rand and the other Asha'man he would obviously be using an illusion and inverting the weave. Then he could go about without arousing suspicion. It also seems well within his character to do something like this because he thinks so highly of himself and that he is much smarter than Lews Therin.

Of course the problem with this is that since Dashiva was really Osan'gar, he would have been around Taim a too much to not have noticed that Taim was really Demandred. Anyone have an idea on that?

Jason, read the home page of Theoryland. Robert Jordan specifically said that the Taimandred theory is "bogus."

I have to say I like this theory for several reasons, but I also have my doubts. One of the reasons I like it, is that it explains where the hell Demandred has been all this time (I would assume of weave like that would require Dem's full concentration). It also explains some of Taim's actions and mannerisms that have been thoroughly discussed and will not be here. Two problems however. One is the "Kill him" order in WH. If Taim was just Demandred's puppet, he wouldn't need to repeat his order, as it would have been him giving it both times anyway. Two, If Demandred was controlling Taim's actions, then he definitely would have noticed Dashiva trying to compulse him and put a stop to it. (Can you even compulse one who is already affected by a weave much akin to compulsion?)

Regardless, this theory is intriguing and worth looking in to. Jordan denied that Taim WAS Demandred. He never said anything about Taim not being Demandred's puppet.

Actually, I'm very much wondering about the Taimandred thing. I think RJ might have started out in his head with Taim as Demandred but then after all the responses he decided it was too obvious and switched to some other more elaborate scheme... Most people will agree with me that some of the quotes and mannerisms are just too close to be coincidence.

A possible explanation for the similar mannerisms is that Taim's home town is the same as Demandred's in terms of culture - ie, similar turns of phrase, same attitudes to different types of people. Not the same place, certainly (after the Breaking), but similar enough that the mannerisms come out close.

Also, supreme arrogance does bring along its own set of mannerisms...

A second possibility is that if Taim is a DF, maybe he models himself on what he knows of Demandred - seeing himself as being alike in terms of being second only because of the 'lucky' Dragon...

I sincerely doubt that Taim is being manipulated by Demandred. Why? Notice that when we got the POV of the DF Asha'man in Far Madding, he said that both Taim and Demandred had told him to do such and such. If he were already taking orders directly from Demandred, then he would simply be another proxy on equal terms with Taim in Demandred's eyes...Taim wouldn't really be able to give him orders, not in private. But if Taim is really a more important Dreadlord (even a possible Forsaken--who says they all have to come from the AoL?) he'd be able to give orders as well, which is apparently what he's doing. Plus, I can't see him having the sheer motivation to make an army of Asha'man for Demandred without being put under enough Compulsion to make him useless to anyone except Graendal.

I sincerely believe that he will join the ranks of the Forsaken, if he hasn't already. It seems reasonable that to become one of the Chosen, you must perform a great service for the DO. Taim is currently working on his magnum opus, for the sake of immortality.
