he true power

Previous Categories: Miscellaneous Theories

I read this theory and its reply a long while ago so please excuse me if i'm rehashing but I remember someone asking that if the true power was a gift from the DO then surely there must be a good TP? The reply to that was that the one power was considered the creators 'true power' equivalent. My point is that the TP is a gift ie it is given (or permission is given) before it can be accessed. The fact is that the forsaken and aes sedai etc are all channeling the one power. There surely must be a power like the TP that can be accessed by those who follow the creator??? (I'm floundering now can you tell?) My only real proof is that the one power is not a gift it is genetic so evil people and good alike can use it. Any ideas?

If the creator created everything, and imprisoned the DO, and the One Power powers the universe he created...why should we assume that there is an additional power that is unknown? If the DO used the TP for something "good"...what then? I don't know, we just haven't been given anything to indicate a third power...maybe someone should ask him at one of his signings?

Ok I agree with the books seemingly reaching the end of the series (although you'd never guess reading CoT) I agree there doesnt seem to be any plot thread or anything pointing to a 3rd power. Its just that I really think that RJ likes balance and yin/yang etc in his books and so came to the conclusion that a 3rd power would be in line with his thinking with the one power being like a public faucet. Or maybe this is the exception to the rule? As RJ doesn't come to England ever (boo) can someone ask him at a future signing pls?

The One Power is the source from the creator, given to all humans to tap into. Some channlers go to the DO who can offer a different source.

The Creator does not infere with the world by taking the One Power away from these Dark Friends because that would create an open confrontation between the two beings, and I BELIEVE it was once said that the two can't fight, or the world would get destroyed between the battle. That is why humans must fight the DO, to imprison him, but I don't think that they have the power to Ever destroy him.

I see your point Deathwalking, but that wasn't what I was saying. I was just making the point that if the baddies get to have the true power as a gift AND use the one power then maybe agents of the creator (maybe verin??) should have an equivalent?

But the Aes Sedai are supposed to be his followers right? They are his "Chosen" lets say. If suddenly the Creater chose his own fighting army, and then gave them their own separate power, then what would become of the Aes Sedai? And would the One Power become obsolete? If all of a sudden people could use another power, what real advantage would they have?

Good point, but why is the DO offering the TP as a gift to his ultra faithful when they already channel saidin/dar? I suppose that unfairness comes from being downright evil haha.

Maybe the ability to twist chance and change fate as a ta'veren is the Creator's gift to his "chosen" few. We have yet to see a Darkfriend ta'veren, so I would almost be willing to bet that all ta'veren, upon birth, are destined for good. However, along the way, they can always choose to become evil or be taken over by it (Mat's dagger, circles of 13, etc.) Maybe ta'veren's Pattern-twisting is the opposite of the True Power?

I like that idea, Tigraine. It's true that we haven't ever heard of a darkfriend ta'averen (or at least I don't remember reading about one). Maybe this is the Creator's way of helping his champions. If the TP is given to the Shadow's servants, then why not ta'averen to the Creator's? Alot of the great heroes we've read about were certainly ta'averen (Hawkwing and LTT are the two that come to mind). The Forsaken mention that LTT made his own luck "like a mint made coin).

i would have to say, the True power probably knows no evil or good, sismilar to one power, but its the user that decides to what purposes the power goes, whether evil or good.

sarutobi: 2005-05-12

No im pretty sure that the true power is just plain evil. This power is derived directly from the dark one. The one power however isnt good or evil. That can be bent either way by will.

JakOShadows: 2005-05-13

It may be true, but you may still have to go through the dark one to use. If you think about it, the dark one just gives you the connection to it. It's up to you what you do with it. And I don't know if he can remove that connection at will or not. Maybe Asmodean could be some insight on this. But it can't be accessed without contact with the dark one. Maybe once the bore is completely open, it can be used by Rand in the LB because of that. It's just that right now its probably not possible.

Bane Darkwulf: 2005-05-14

The True Power is derived from the Dark One, Whereas the One Power is a genetic GIFT. I think the Creator built in the One Power to the genetic code foe some of the people, and it is His way of affecting the Wheel, and so the Dark One allows the Forsaken to use the True Power as a way to affect the Wheel through proxy. As the saying goes, No one is so lost to the light to be able to return. Or something like that. So, why would the Creator take away the One Power if he could somehow get those people back? Also, now only Morodin has the use of the True Power, so the other Forsaken would be worse than useless to the DO if they could no longer channel the OP.
