Well, Mount Rushmore is there...I'd have to assume some fairly large tourism based communities are also there. Its not that weird to be honest.

Its also something of a crossroads between the Borderlands and Tar Valon.


One question I've always had is why didnt Tar Valon officially annex its old lands back after Hawkwing's empire fell? They certainly have the power (financial and militarily) to do so but they've basically confined themselves to their city-state for the last 1000 years. I have to wonder if it wasn't some Black Ajah plot to limit the Tower's influence and help accelerate the decline of Randland following Hawkwing. A much more proactive Tower (the one that kidnapped kings and queens, ruled nations, etc) would have greatly bolstered the failing states that we've seen like Hardan, Caralain, etc.
