    Interview: Jul 29th, 2006

    Brandon Sanderson

In this chapter we also have the first mention of the Eleventh Metal. I kind of wish that I'd found another place for this, since the chapter is already filled with a long discussion scene. Yet, it proved to be the best place for it in the drafting process.

If you think that what Kelsier is saying here is a little fishy, then you're not alone. Most of the crew doesn't believe him either. I'll certainly admit that there is more going on here—far more—than anyone suspects.

Hopefully, you noticed Clubs's little 'hooks through our throats' line here. That one pops up again, certainly, and it has a nice little relation to the next time we see Camon's lair.

    Footnote

Brandon wrote a short story about Kelsier learning about the Eleventh Metal in the Mistborn RPG book. Ruin had Kelsier's teacher kill the man who discovered it.

    Interview: Oct 12th, 2015

    Question

Is metal a renewable resource on Scadrial, or is it going to run out?

    Brandon Sanderson

    It does run out.

    Footnote

supposedly contradicts another WOB: I just got back from the Phoenix Comic on, where Brandon is a guest at, and I must say it was an honor to meet him. He read parts of Wax/Wayne 2, Legion 2, and the Taravangian interlude in WoR. There weren't a lot of cosmeric goodies, but I did get a couple interesting tidbits in relation to Mistborn: Ruin would have had to manifest to reabsorb the atium, the Well of Ascension did not come at a price to Preservation's power, and perhaps the most interesting one. Burned metals are turned into a different form, and will eventually return to the planet. The Pits of Hath sin are meant to foreshadow this.

    Interview: Oct 6th, 2015

    Nethseaar

Could an Allomancer or Feruchemist Burn or Feruchemically Fill molten metal? Would that affect the Investiture?

    Brandon Sanderson

Something to the effect that it would be very painful and damaging, but yes, one could Burn and Fill molten metal, and yes, it would affect the Investiture.

    Interview: Feb 17th, 2016

    Question

Aluminum, when you burn aluminum, does it actually destroy the metals or just take away their power?

    Brandon Sanderson

    It destroys the metals.

    Question

    Same with chromium?

    Brandon Sanderson

    Yeah.

    Question

So it actually gets rid of the metals?

    Brandon Sanderson

It actually trans-- It does a-- matter, energy, investiture are the same things in the cosmere. You have some sort of transfer happening relating to those things.

    Question

The question sort of relates to metal poisoning--

    Brandon Sanderson

Yeah, you would not get metal poisoning after that.

    Interview: Feb 25th, 2016

    Question

You mentioned that the flakes of metal are catalysts to access the powers of Preservation. What do the birds from Patji use as catalysts?

    Brandon Sanderson

You don't always have to have the exact same thing for catalysts, for that it’s kind of more of an innate connection, in the same way that the metals have an innate connection. They ARE the catalyst if that makes sense.

    Interview: Feb 25th, 2016

    Question

Find out more about the caesium, the exploding metal?

    Brandon Sanderson

The super caesium? Well, the last Wax and Wayne book is called “The Lost Metal” so....you kinda got it...yeah.
