errin will Perrish

by Brendan Reborn: 2004-04-22 | Not yet rated

Ok. My theory is that Perrin will die before the last battle is over. We know that only Rand is mentioned in the prophecies of the dragon, it says nothing about mat or perrin(Noal says something about a gambler in Shara or something like that, but it's not about Mat).

"Perrin stepping willingly over the edge of a towering cliff saying, "It must be done. I must learn to fly before I hit the bottom.".

A quote before that one says something to the like of:

"Perrin and Aram hacking through brambles trying to reach something, unaware of the cliff that lay ahead"

(not sure on exact quote, can't find it)

Another support for this is

"...even the tinker. Every time he moved closer to Perrin it was

as if a chill of doom shot through everything."

I think that either Aram being a darkfriend, or just being insanely in love with faile and perrin, will do something stupid and cause perrin to make an important decision. That's when he will say "I must learn to fly before I reach the bottom" Aram will be responsible for Perrin falling off the cliff and Perrin will die. That's all folks.

(Frenzy for Tamrylin)
perhaps. But how does this reconcile with Min's viewing of trees flowering all around him? (her first Viewing, from EotW)
(btw, the Cliff image was one of Egwene's Dreams, in tDR Ch. 37, and the brambles one is in PoD, Ch. 15.)

Fun idea. I enjoy taking a bold stance on who will live or die. I might suggest, however, that the quote regarding perrin learning to fly could have as much to do with T.A.R. as with death - as shown by Hopper the wolf. kind of gets into the whole phenomenon of lucid dreaming and the ability to fly while in a lucid dream.

Ah the beautiful Ambiguous Metaphor...

Although not specifically mentioned in the known prophecies of the Dragon, all 3 (Rand, Mat, Perrin) must be at the last battle for Rand to win.

A Myrdraal makes the comment 'Cut one leg of the tripod, and all 3 will fall'

There are also other references to all 3 needing to be at the Last Battle, but I don't recall them off the top of my head.

mind you, I think it'd make for a great story line to have at least one of the main characters die

I disagree...

1) there is (as mentioned before) min's viewing of trees flowering all around him

2) it would not fit perrin's description as a builder. granted he has started something in the two rivers... but I believe that he will be the one to start rebuilding after the last day...

3) as stated repeatedly, the three ta'veren have to survive untill the last day and they have to be there or all will fail.

To be perfectly honest, I didn't think this theory would be posted, as I myself don't fully beleive it, but it would be a twisted ending. And the prophecy from noal was definately about mat. But the trees flowering around him could be symbolic. he could also be dead with flowers growing, you never know in randland...

basheres wife said somthign like when you jump a clif your only hope is to hope you learn to fly before you hit the bottom. refering to somehow surving a hopeless situation. perhaps rescuing failie? he will dive head on into that.

It shows Perrin's desire to free Faile. He's "approaching the cliff" similar to his desire for nothing other then Faile.

This is interesting, as most people give Perrin the best chance of the three at surviving the Last Battle. There are omens of doom hanging over almost every charactor in the books- why is Perrin more likely to die than any of the others?

First off dreams are usually not accurate, usually insinuating an event rather than predicting an exact situation. 'Learn to fly before I hit the bottom' is more likely to mean that perrin must learn to escape from a dangerous situation before it hits the fan. The dangerous situation being the shaido, of course, and the bottom of the cliff being the war. He and Aram are blindly cutting through obstacles to reach faile, not seeing the danger ahead. Perrin must realize the danger and learn how to avoid it.

My main argument against Perrin dieing though has to be all the things which indicate he will help rebuild after the LB

Tamyrlin -- The flowering trees foretelling has already happened when Loial sang to make the apple trees blossom over Perrin's family's graves.

But I do not think Perrin will die. He is the one part of the tripod that represents order and the rule of justice after war and chaos have passed.

charliec: 2004-07-13

Gotta say I don't see Perrin dying... I fear we're in for a happy-ending! I agree though that Aram's going to do something Evil/stupid pretty darn soon, probably involving the Shaido...

**But I do not think Perrin will die. He is the one part of the tripod that represents order and the rule of justice after war and chaos have passed. **

Huh? Mat's developing into a fine upstanding and responsible guy, Rand's desperate to leave something behind to survive him, and meanwhile Perrin's off throwing everything away to reach Faile...

Anubis: Deira Bashere actually said that when you jump off a cliff, your only hope is that there is a haywain at the bottom. :)

*Perrin stepping willingly over the edge of a towering cliff saying, "It must be done. I must learn to fly before I hit the bottom.".*

I believe that Egwene's Dream indicates how Perrin must learn to control T.A.R., as well as control HIMSELF in T.A.R., in order to rescue Moiraine. (For example, in one Wolf Dream, Perrin couldn't keep himself from actually becoming the wolf Young Bull... but how would the wolf get into the 'finn's tower? He must be human and in control of all emotions.) Perrin is too strong-willed to die, as is Rand... Mat? Mat's just too afraid of dying to die. :)

Jes-

I really don't think the the Apple Trees blooming over Perrin's family graves were what the viewing was about. To me, I think it has something to do with seed singing or whatever it is called. Back in the AOL when the Green Man, Ogier, and Aiel would sing to the planting of crops.

But I really don't see Perrin Dieing. If anyone is going to die, it will be Rand. But maybe it is Mat who dies.

However, I might be contradicing myself, but maybe the second time Perrin is to save Rand's life is at TG. He might push Rand out of the way of Balefire or something and end up dieing instead of Rand.
