ll at the same time

Previous Categories: Who is the other person in Rand's head?

Trough the last books Lews Therin has said things like "Why do I have a madman in my head?".

From this I have gotten a theory:

Maybe all the dragons exist at the same time. Thus hearing eachothers mad voices.

I have heard this idea before, but we don't really have anything to go on. You could make a case for Rand and Lews...but that is about it. Why would this only happen to Lews Therin? Why not Birgitte and Gaidal, other Heroes? And Lews wasnt always mad, just at the very end of his life...so, it just doesn't seem very likely that they somehow hear all of each other's voices.

I dont know if this is releveant, but have any of ye read "Magician" by RE Feist? In that book theres a storyline about Tomas and one of the Valkyru hearing each others voices at the same time across thousands of years, with both of them helping the other at the same time, in different scenarios, with the result that both end up being a hybrid who can detect the memories and experiences of the other at the same time.

This would mean that LTT would have knowledge of Rand after a certain point in time in the AOL, and this could be what was used to prepare Callandor for Rand and so forth.....

Just at thought, given that Feist and Jordan are in the same publishing club.

I like the idea about The Magician, but LTT's madness seems to tear that apart. He was only mad toward the end of his life; if an outside force was joining the two dragons, wouldn't they join Rand to LTT when he was still sane? Also, the EotW implies that LTT didn't live long after he went insane. The time doesn't necessarily have to correspond (especially if TAR was involved in creating the link, and I can't think of any other way it could be done), but I'd expect them to be similar. Still, it's an interesting idea.

It's been years since I last read Magician, but I think delboy's comparison is useful in explaining why LTT and only LTT.

IIRC in both cases, the "ghost's" death was a result of magic; in the case of Magician, it locked the ghost's soul in a sort of stasis and bound it to the armor Tomas wears.

In LTT's case, the manner of his death could have bound LTT to Dragonmount and Rand's birth there unlocked the binding and allowed LTT's personality to imprint on Rand at his birth. If the personality was entwined with Rand's ability to channel, it wouldn't manifest itself until that became active.

Despite RJ's assertion of "two personalities and one soul," this fits a classic "unfinished business" or "Redemption" scenario for LTT.

A similar "death by magic" connection applies to the voices male channelers hear -- they're voices/personalities of the Hundred Companions.

Other Heroes and figures of Myth and Legend who are contiuously "recycled" because they don't get "locked into place" -- if they did, they couldn't be recycled until the right conditions are met and would become one of those who are "no longer bound to the Horn" -- See Hawkwing's conversation with Hurin for the changing complement of Heroes of the Horn.
