emandred is Bashere

by Elberyn Delumen: 2002-11-18 | 5.5 out of 10 (8 votes)

Previous Categories: Who is Demandred?

When I first saw this theory, I found it very intriguing so I decided to pursue it.

It wouldn't be very difficult for Demandred to pull this off. They're both good generals, he and Osan'gar were supposed to keep an eye on Rand.

It would give him easy access to Taim and the Asha'man.

Also, this gives us another explanation of why Bashere doesn't recognize Taim: he's not really Bashere.

It would be very subtle of Jordan to put that in there. Especially considering Bashere also has Demandred's features. (hawk nose, almost handsome etc.)

The one problem that Tamyrlin pointed out in this theory is that he wouldn't be able to fool Deira. But then again, why would he have to? He could simply use compulsion to subdue her. It would explain her uncharacteristic meekness in regard to him. As for Faile, he wouldn't have to fool her. They were only together for half an hour if that.

It might also explain the emotions Perrin smelled on him when he met him. They were contrary to the words that he was saying but no one other than a Wolfbrother would recognize that.

It would be ultimately ironic if Lews Therin's greatest general from the AoL turned out to be Rand's greatest general. Both eventaully betray him.

There are probably problems with this theory, but I thought I would throw it out here and see the responses.

We seem to have enough Point of View's from him to rule this out...but anything is possible. As to him being able to fool his daughter...I don't know, Faile doesn't seem like she is fooled by anyone...and he would have to work hard to keep it up. I don't believe it will be, but I have been wrong before.

Faile doesn't even get the impression that something is wrong with her father. And another thing, Deira isn't meek towards Bashere... she just doesn't argue with him once he digs in his heels. Nobody seems to be suspicious of Bashere, and there doesn't seem to be any reason to suspect him. And another thing, Rand's greatest general is NOT Bashere, it's Mat.

While I don't follow the Bashandred line of thinking, I do believe that Demandred may be a ranking officer among Bashere's men. The physical description matches the stereotypical Saldeaen description...Demandred is likely near Caemlyn when he steps out of TAR after spying on Elayne, and comfortable enough in his disguise to do so. It is also likely that this is how he could be seen as trying to "stumble into" Rand. What better way than to join troops under Bashere knowing that he follows the DR. Demandred is a general, so it isn't too far of a stretch to see him as an officer.
