aint Gone, but if it came back......

More of a question then a theory...

Ok so given that you buy into the idea that the taint is gone and most people do, let's say that a strike at shayol ghul is done again and the DO performs another counterstroke....

Well now you have no more Shadar Logoth or polarizing evil to work the taint against..... how would you cleanse the taint now?

As you say, not a theory (but a good question), but you could make it one by proposing your own answer. :) So, since you haven't done that, I will ask my own questions that you or any others can answer.

What enabled the DO to taint Saidin in the first place? How else do you "repair" or fix the bore, without opening up the One Power to being able to be tainted again? I know Fel says that you have to "clear the rubble", but what will Rand do so differently to disable the DO's tainting abilities?

In answer to your question, whatever you would do, it obviously would require a large amount of the one power to do, but I have no idea how you would go about doing it...either way, I still have a difficult time wrapping my brain around the concept that Jordan used to cleanse it in the first place.

Heres a thought on how the Dark One tainted saidin - maybe he infected it with the true power. The madness that comes from male channelers using it is reminiscent of the descriptions of Ishamael from several of the forsaken, and he is a heavy duty true power user. Also, the other forsaken are clearly shocked at how often Moridin uses TP, even for such mundane (wierd?) acts as frying rats, and the cost of using it that they constantly refer to could be insanity.

There are several references to using the true power only in emergencies, implying that limited usage of it has no harmful side-effects. Saidin is the same, and men can avoid the taint-induced madness by not channeling.

So, how can Rand and company block a hypothetical true-power counterstroke from the Dark One? How about Mat's medallion, which we know works against the one power. It has never been tested against the true power, but then again, it has never been stated what its purpose was. Mat asked for something to free him from Aes Sedai & THE POWER, which if interpreted liberally would give protection from the true power as well (or former Aes Sedai that wielded the true power).

I have a feeling that Mat's medallion may be made of cuendillar, and since most of the original seals are shot, they would be useless to reseal the Dark One's prison. But it could be used in their place, if it can be implanted manually - that is without the one power.

I dont think that Mats medalion would work against the True Power. I took what you said as to say that the medallion would stop almost anything with the power, I could just be misinterperating you, but in TFOH we know this to be false because Mat was bolted with lightning by Ravhin. That was done with the One Power and Mat had his medalion on so if the One Power theory holds then it shouldve stopped it from harming him. But it still killed him (he came back to life after Rand balefired Ravhin). Now many people say that it didnt work because it was the male half of the true source. The medallion is a ter'angreal, not cuendillar, and in WH Cadsuane has a ter'angreal that can detect channeling from male sources so I would assume that Mats ter angreal, even if the Finn found it it was still made in the AoL, so I would guess it would protect against male half too. Although that can all be taken for conjecture so whatever you make of it.

Mat's medallion does block saidin, as we see when Halima tried to channel at him in Salidar.

As for the lightning bolts striking Mat, there are two ways that he could be affected without being touched directly by a weave. One is that Rahvin only changed the atmospheric conditions over the skies of Caemlyn enough to cause spontaneous cloudless lightning, so the actual weaves were only high off, and the side effects were the lightning. Two, even if the lightning was the direct weave, once it hit the ground, it started causing secondary effects which are indirectly related to the original weave. Mat's medallion does not block secondary effects of weaves, as Elayne and Nynaeve proved on the way to Ebou Dar.

Question is that the taint was created under special circumstances I thought. With the Cuendillar right? Well wouldn't it be hard to get the exact things happening for the DO to do another counterstroke?

I think that mats medalion does block saidin. When mat goes to get egwene from the rebel aes sedai camp and he is dancing, the medalion goes cold, indicating that someone channeled at it. Mat turns and sees Halima (saidin channeler) glaring at him. So apparently she tried somthing and it failed.

Mat's medallion only blocks direct attacks with the power--it only the power from touching him. However, indirect effects (like lightning)are not blocked--no one can wrap Mat in flows of air, but they can set the ground that he's standing on on fire. Note: the same should hold true for the gholams, so it may be that they can be killed.

My memory is sketchy about the gholams but I think they cant be harmed by knifes or arrows. So im not sure if setting the ground around them on fire would do it. They obviously have some type of armor weather its their skin or extra defense like body armor today.

Well Im not quite sure here but the true power is based on the OP so if used that knowledge couldnt you shield the TP and just put the shield around shayol ghul and thus the DO couldnt reach out and then they could seal it the same way

Just a thought im not even through LOC

**Well Im not quite sure here but the true power is based on the OP so if used that knowledge couldnt you shield the TP and just put the shield around shayol ghul and thus the DO couldnt reach out and then they could seal it the same way**

With the TP you can do similar things to the OP (it is the same process, you make weaves out of threads just like channeling the OP), but it is not "based off it" unless that is what you originally meant. The TP comes from the Dark One, only. No other source at all.

RJ has said it is possible to shield someone from using the TP, but no one even knows it's possible, and vast, vast, VAST, majority of people know of no such thing as the TP; only the Forsaken do (doubtful any Black Ajah know of it).

But shielding off an entire power, seems impossible. Granted, the Dark One had really no use of the TP while sealed away pre-AoL, but you can easily say that is because he had no one to allow to use it. Blocking the TP isn't the same as blocking the Dark One in my mind. The Dark One is the source of the TP, he can grant the usage of it, but the Bore is there, and blocking the TP does not address that issue of the Bore at all; and it is the Bore that allows the Dark One to touch the world.

Plus, once again, only the Forsaken know of the TP, so it's a useless suposition to think of it being blocked in the future (if it is even possible). Unless of course, someone finds, captures, tortures, and believes one of the Forsaken about what they will view as an imaginary power they cannot tap into (the Dark One will simply deny them). Unlikely.

**Just a thought im not even through LOC**

Don't come here then. Not to sound mean or overbearing, but come back when you have finished. It ruins the experience of the novels, and a lot of questions you can broach from your standpoint are answered in the later books (more raised then answered though).

Fel also said that the DO's prison needs to be whole and not just patched. So using other plls theorys on the True source i will try to make my point. If the patch was made by the one power this could mean that the actual prison is made of the True Power. So The DO used the TP to taint saidin. In The Wheel Of Time the TP is used to remove the taint from LTT. So to make the prison whole it needs to be remade of the TP. So Rand needs to weild the TP to make the new prison. So if the prison is whole the DO can't touch the world at all.
