areth Bryne uses Gateways.

I think that the battle will be one that uses new tactics that haven't been seen before. Bryne gets the Aes Sedai, especially the ones that know the White Tower's grounds to open gateways all over the componds. Gareth Bryne will have succeeded at invading the White Tower without causing external strife. If the Sisters Gate into the Amrylin's quarters they could end it before it has begun, with the infanty subduing the gaurds.

That sure would surprise them before they knew what was happening. You figure that they probably are not going to "fight" each other in the traditional sense. And with gateways, it could be over pretty quickly. Crossroads of Twilight here we come, although I am sure Jordan will add a few twists that will surprise us.

All of the Aes Sedai know the Tower pretty well don't they? Gate into Amrylin's study, capture Amrylin, and the Keeper of the Keys, guard the Quarters of the sisters, hey presto. White Tower is one again, darkfriends are found out, and Egwene is Amrylin. It won't happen as neatly as that though. Just think of the possiblities in battle.
Wasn't Bryne studying the Gateways at some point in time?

It may not surprise the Tower AS as much as you think. I don't have the reference on hand, but remember that Mesaana taught Alviarin how to make a gateway. She controls the tower now, not Elaida, so she may have counter measures.

There is a smalll problem with the travelling idea- didnt Elaida start building a brand new palace or something? what if shes started changing the other rooms too- then the rebels couldn't travel into the tower because they wouldnt recognise the new layouts.just athought.
although it would be fun to see the rebels travel to the bottom of the new palace and then have to climb a few hundred flights of steps to get to Elaida. kinda undignified way to make an entrance....

Indeed, they really couldn't open a Gateway right into the Amyrlin's study, because they would risk chopping people in half. They would be forced to open them in some abandoned basement rooms, or in wings of the Tower that were previously unused.
Good point about Elaida's new palace. She could be moving all her stuff there as we speak, so the Rebels Gate in to the Tower, only to find Elaida somewhere else. (Whoever came up with the idea that Elaida's palace will be the new black tower--I love it!!)

Well, the Egwene could recon the tower in TAR. I think she has already, and besides, the Tower that Elaida's building is so big that it wouldn't be finished for at least a decade. (remember, some cathedrals in England took centuries to complete.) It still could work though. The sisters would be caught of gaurd completely, and by the time that they can react, it would be too late.
It sure would be funny if they Gated into the room in which the Sisters are trying to find the Black Ajah.

You all seem to be missing a vital point in the use of travelling. Thet dont need 2 know the out location v. well. They just need 2 know the location they go from. If they r opening in2 elaidas study, I dont think they would mind 2 much about elaida being cut in half either.

I think that they would be worried about cutting Elaida in half. They would want to have a trail, right. Also, while you just need to know the starting location, I think that the gates are not exact enough to gate anywhere to the centimetre, and you would have to know something about where you are gating to.

I was overexaggerating when i said they probably wouldnt mind cutting elaida in half, but, from what I understand from the bits on gating, about all the person travelling needs to know is the name of the place(not even that i think, remember Aviendha gated to the seanchan empire, what would she know about that?). But in any case, to travel, you dont need to know much about the place you are going to, so people saying that they couldnt gate because the tower has changed are wrong.

Sorry Drekan, you are right about only needing to know the destination. And they can travel over short distances without knowing anything, or even skim i suppose if they really had to.
I was getting confused with how Egwene and Elayne couldn't go to Elaida's room in TAR.
Apologies.....

Even if they aren't worried about cutting Elaida in half, they'd still have to worry about the sisters who stayed only because they think the Tower needs to be whole. I like the idea about traveling into the basements; they could move upwards through the Tower (linked in circles of three or four) and shield every Aes Sedai they found. In this way, they could retake the Tower with little or no bloodshed (unless Halima/Aran'gar gives them away to the BA in the tower . . .)

Wouldn't it be great if the Rebels Gated into the storage room where the sisters are uncovering the BA?

What if Mesaana had put traps like Ravhin or Sammael did? Couldn't they know when one of them channeled powerful enough to make a gateway, or even if they could set a trap for a specific weave like gating, or they could set traps around certain key spots?
Also I wouldnt want Eliada to get cut in half, I want HER to be stilled, or sworn to a 4th oath.... Muh hahahahahaha.
