anfear/Moraine combo a la Slayer

by dionysus: 2002-12-13 | Not yet rated

Previous Categories: Moiraine: Where is She Now?

It's been a while since I've read the books, and I've only read the last book once, but this is the theory I've taken for granted since Moraine first disappeared. If I get names/times wrong, please correct me, but I believe this is a Strong theory.

We have the setup of the situation of Aelfin/Elfin: Lands of Foxes and Snakes. Accessed by Gates. Moiraine suggested that multiple strong forces inside a gate at the same time could cause problems.

Now I don't know if I made an assumption of this, or if it was stated, but I connected two towers to being another access to the realms: The one in the Two Rivers Perrin accessed in a wolf dream to free Faile; the tower (ghenji?) that is on the path to the Blight. Both of these towers have connections to another character we've seen: Slayer, the Luc/Isham merger.

Slayer was formed when Luc and Isam crossed paths going to the blight near this tower. The result was the physical appearance of one with the mental control of the other. In the Dreamworld, this appearance was switched.

Keeping with the towers, it appears Slayer was able to enter the dreamworld "in the flesh" via this tower. This perhaps means that there is joint access to the dreamworld, aelfinn/elfinn lands, and the towers. (Thom saving moiraine)

Now if this relationship exists, the mystery of Cyndane is solved. Moiraine and Lanfear enter through the gate and threaten to rip reality. The Dark One intervenes and allows Lanfear to win the battle, leaving her in a mindtrap at the end.

The hair color of Cyndane is the only thing that doesn't follow, but how difficult is it for a Forsaken to change her appearance?

The result we have is a powerful forsaken that looks like Moiraine (i.e. Rand will trust her), with Lanfear's motives, controlled by Moridin through the mindtrap.

I apologize for not being able to site all these instances and for the mispellings, etc, but I had all of this backed up at one point of time.

Well, the Tower of Ghenji is actually not anywhere near the blight. It is closer to the Two Rivers. But, you have a point that Isam runs into the Tower when Perrin chased him. So, you can make a connection between Isam and the finns, albeight, not very strong because we have no known time when the finns and Slayer interact. Also, the problem with the theory is whether or not two people, entering at the same time through a doorway, would arrive on the other side at the same place with each other (because Moiraine, Rand, and Mat? were all in there together, but no evidence of each other's presence was ever noted). Finally, we have no impression that the DO is involved with the finns. They seem to be an entity unto themselves. Is it possible...maybe. But, Slayer seems to be under the direction of the DO, and the Luc/Isam connection seems to be involved with the DO, but the finns don't seem to be connected with the DO, so I don't think we can assume a connection between Cyndane and Slayer. Just my take on it.

Problem with this is if Lanfear and Moiraine became Cyndane then, like Slayer, they would basically mood swings in their thoughts or POVs. We have had Cyndanes POV in Wh and from that we can pretty much assume that Moiraine isnt in their anywhere, Just Lanfear and her hate for Rand now. I dunno if this will hold water but hey just a suggestion.

That is a good point... but I'm stubborn as a goat, so I'm sticking with it till I'm proven wrong Heh, I must be from Two Rivers I'm so stubborn.

Thanks for the responses, though. I'll just have to wait and see.

First, the Tower of Ghenjei is about ten to fifteen days northwest of Whitebridge (it's the shining metal tower described by Domon in TEotW during Mat, Rand, and Thom's trip down the Arinelle. Second, we have no proof that Slayer actually entered the Tower of Ghenjei when Perrin was chasing him, just that his scent leads to the tower and not away from it (Slayer could have stepped out of the dream. This seems more likely since Birgette tells Perrin that it is all but impossible to leave the Tower in TAR. Also, Slayer's ability to enter TAR in the flesh doesn't appear to have anything to do with Finnland or the Tower (reread WH where Slayer tries to kill Rand and Min; he simply shifts in and out at will).

This probably needs its own category, but could the Tower of Ghenjei be connected to the metal spire in the prolouge of TPoD where the borderland rulers meet?

Can't quote book and chapter, but iirc Slayer muttered something about 'retrieving' somebody or something from the Tower of Ghenjei, which is referred to by somebody else as being a portal to the finns.

btw, I think that metal spire in the Borderlands is a leftover radar dish from a much earlier Age- might explain the sickness people who go there sometimes get.
