shmael is the Lord of Chaos

Here it is. Im not sure if i believe it myself, but it does make a little sense.

When the Dark One gave his message to Demandred, he told Demandred "his plan" (note, I am not saying that the dark one has one plan... far from it, this theory is all about dualality) This plan is the Dark Ones short term (short term meaning this age) plan. Have we ever seen demandred and ishmael directly interact? I find this interesting. Demandred is also not at all upset about Ishmael being placed above him. I forget the exact wording but the Dark One at least implies that Demandred would be Nae Bliss.

Sooooooooo anyways.... The Dark One has put Ishmael "in charge". Ishmael has been described as being insane by those who know him best. I am not denying that Ishmael knows the DOs real goal, but what i am saying is that ishmaels is not the type of person you would want managing a war. Ishmael seems to be the, oh well, ill win eventually type. Demandred demands victory now. Ishmael has been placed in command because he is unpredictable, and he is excellent at sowing chaos. His purpose is to distract rand, and the pattern maybe, from the fact that Demandred and Scheme.... evil tortury chick, are deffinatly up to somthing on the side.

The reasons i think this could be the case:

1. Ishmael is one chaotic dude. The forsaken view him as being a fool. He is a philosopher, you dont have philosophers run your wars for good reason, yet none of the forsaken question him, or even seem to plan against him, they just accept it.

2. After we hear this missave, Ishmael makes his appearance and slowly begins reining in the Forsaken.

3. Demandred and Semerage have been offscreen for a long time... and its suspicious.

I don't think so. Demandred does have some face time with Moridin. "Bending his neck hurt Demandred as much as speaking those words. So they would take al'Thor-while he was trying to use the Choedan Kal, no less, he and some woman drinking enough of the One Power to melt continents!-but there had been no indication that Moridin would be with them. Or his twin pets, Moghedien and Cyndane. The man was Nae'blis for now, but perhaps matters could be arranged so he did not get another body the next time he died. Perhaps it could be arranged soon." Demandred went to the meeting, sponsored by Moridin, and did as he was commanded by Moridin, even knowing that Moridin wasn't going to defeat Rand's attempt to cleanse the OP. If the DO had other plans for Demandred, you would think he would have pulled him to the side and given him other instructions. But we see Demandred go and fight, a fight in which he could easily have been killed, and Moridin is saved by the DO, just in case it goes badly for them all. I agree that the DO might be playing Demandred against Moridin, but it is more likely that Demandred has his own plans against Moridin, and playing along to please the DO.

a couple of things about this theory first off i actually like it but i am not convinced however i will lend a little support

Tam stated that why would Dem do what Ishy said.

1 of 2 things the DO told Dem he would eventually be Na'bliss but he had to follow Ishy for the time being or 2 being that Dem is really Na'Blis and that he is only following what Ishy says because he wants the other Forsaken to Presive that Ishy is Na'Blis if i am a great tactition and i am worried about assasination i would set up a figurehead who it looks like they are doing everything but i am pulling the strings Dem could just be biding his time

now for the detraction from your theory If i am the DO i want as much chaos as possible and when the War is over i dont care who is leading my armies because when the war is over there will be no need because i will be free and will Rule everything and i will enslave everyone or just destroy everyone the point is the DO wants total anihilation the best man for the job is somone who is compleatly insane and does not care what gets destoryed

though at the same time During the war i want somone who can lead also so you have order on your side and chaos being inflicted upon the other side

anyway just my thoughts

Great Lord of the Dark: 2004-01-26

I've toyed with this idea myself. The reason I like it is it explains why Demandred suddenly starts following Ishy in Book 9 when they've seemingly not met before then. If Demandred had been told "Let the Lord of Chaos (Ishy) rule," then th eGreat Lord's question of "Would you be Nae'blis?" makes a little more sense. The DO is asking if Demandred can put up with a little crap from Ishy in order to eventually claim the title of Nae'blis for himself. After all, we know the Lord of Chaos is not the one who is truly in command, or will not finish there at least, based on the rhyme and Feast of Fools.

Anyway, I like this theory half the time, the other half I stick to the conventional thinking that it's Rand, not Ishy.

I think the Lord of Chaos is Rand... and I have no evidence to support this

On the topic of Demandred being Nae'blis... DO asks Demandred if he would be Nae'blis, Sammael tells Graendal that the DO has all but promised he would be Nae'blis, and Graendal recalls that she visited the Pit of Doom, and that the Dark One said she'd be Nae'blis... maybe Semirhage wasnt asked if she'd be Nae'blis, or Mesaana was told she wouldnt be, who knows... but clearly, the Dark One is playing Donald Trump on this episode of The Devil's Apprentice

tam your thing actually supports my theory. dem accepts ishamaels leadership because he is the lord of chaos, it hurts him to have to bend his neck to a fool but the dark one commands and he must obey

Doesn't the "Lord of Chaos" status mean, that the designed LoChaos is temporary on power, that his power is limited, that there is a real ruler who only waits for the end of the time of the lord of Chaos, and that the LoChaos is supposed to be removed soon. The Foolday in BWB connection presumes so. And Ishamael doesn't seem to be so restricted...

It was my interpretation that Rand is the LOC. Demandred gets his orders in the begining. Told to let the LOC rule. What happens through out the rest of the book, Rand gains massive power and starts the Black Tower. We all know that Dem is involved with the BT somehow. He does what was told and allows Rand to go on with what he is doing while he sits in the background. He doesnt really break this order until way later when him and Taim order rand to be killed. It couldn't be Moridin or Ishy as the LOC. When the DO gave his orders to Dem, it was right around the time of Aginor and Balthamel's resurection. RJ stated that it takes time for souls to be resurected. If Aginor and Balthamel died at the end of the first book, and didn't come back until the begining of the 6'th...I highly doubt Ishy, who died at the end of the 3rd book..would come back in the 6th...be given the title of Nae Bliss, nicknamed the Lord of Chaos, and have Demandred following him around waiting for the perfect time to strike. Ishy hasn't come back yet and is in no way the LOC. The DO asked Dem is he would like to be Nae Bliss because at the time...he was a good choice and Ishy was sellectable yet.

just to throw this into the works, I found this in BWB
If not for Lews Therin Telamon, he would have undoubable been the most acclaimed man of his Age.
This is about Demandred.

People seem to forget about Demandred, in favour of Ishamael / Lanfear. Sure Ishamael was 'believed' to be be the most powerful of the Chosen, and it states that in the OP he was equaled by none but LTT.

Yes Demandred was not as powerful as Ishamael, maybe not as powerful as Lanfear, even, but he is sane, a brilliant general and strategist, and was considered second only to LTT as the most honored and influential man of his Age.

So why is Ishamael focused on? I believe that Demandred is using Ishamael as his proxy.
