hase Alignment, for lack of a better term

Previous Categories: The Last Battle

A thought came to me while reading some other theories... so I thought I'd submit it and see what kind of responses it gets. My thinking started off as I thought about the walking dead and ghosts that are seen at various places.

The ghosts and walking dead that are seen don't appear, in my opinion, to be malicious. I don't think they are a bubble of evil, as has been suggested, because they don't seem to be attacking or seeking to injure anyone or anything. Here's my thought:

The ghosts are souls waiting to be reborn (in a place perhaps similar to where the heros hang out waiting for their time). As the Wheel of Time turns, the Real World starts to line up or come into phase with this place... we'll call it Limbo (I thought of calling it the Soul Train, but that seemed too corny, even for me). The more in-phase with Limbo the Real World gets, the more visible these souls are in the Real World.

Here's where I start to speculate and start to get excited about the potential of this line of thinking. What if the DO's prison is somehow related to this Limbo region (which is partially why he can transmigrate souls and is why he is called the Lord of the Grave) so that the more in phase with the Real World it is, the more potential influence the Dark One has upon the Real World. Currently, the seals are stemming some of the influence and (so long as some are intact) will provide at least a partial barrier between the DO and the Real World. The Last Battle will take place when this Limbo region and the Real World are completely aligned. Perhaps... for the bore to be completely fixed (as if it never existed) it needs to be fixed at this exact point of Phase Alignment (which would partially explain why the 100 companions didn't completely succeed... the Real World wasn't in phase with Limbo enough for a perfect fix to be possible). If the seals are still there, then the repair will not be able to work. That's why Fel left Rand the note saying to rebuild he'd have to clear the rubble. The patch needs to be completely gone before the Real World and Limbo are in complete alignment (at the Last Battle) so that at the one moment in time (during this turning of the wheel) when the possibility exists to fix the bore, it can be done without any barrier (the Seals) interupting the fix.

Flinnd, I can see what caused you to go with this line of thought. However, I don't see the necessity of Limbo, or the Soul Pool, having to come into Phase with the Real World? I agree, there is a place where all souls go after death, but we are led to believe the idea that the DO is the Lord of the Grave is merely a false belief among the public; he cannot transmigrate any soul that does not belong to him, either through direct contact at/near shayol ghul, or those actually sworn to him there. In other words, I don't believe there is any connection between the DO and the Soul Pool, or limbo, as far as the books indicate. I think you should go back and attempt to make a stronger case linking the last battle and "limbo".

I agree with what your saying to some extent, but your theory becomes a little too eclectic, and unnecessary.

I totally agree that the ghosts are not bubbles of evil, because its not like totally magical or evil in nature, i agree that different time dimensions may be merging a bit though because the Age Lace is unraveling and crossing a bit.

Hence the reason all the ghosts are being seen, and i semi-agree that when these phases are aligned the Bore can be sealed, but more to the point that some how time won't matter there, and we may see the Heroes all come back and what not, but not as exaggerated as your theory goes.

The explaning of the ghosts with phase alignment of the limbo with something in the current age is good idea. Thought why it has to be aligned exactly to DO's prison. It could maintain Baal'zamons claim to be the Lord of the Grave, but from the interview we see that DO (and therefore Baalzamon in even greater degree) have very much limitation about reachind dead souls.

A phase alignment between the Bore and the limbo can occur in an indirect manner though. We know that the current time is a time when old "barriers" are broken and among other thing that explains the flourishing of forgotten non-channeling Talents (wolfbrothers, sniffers, Min...). The time of the Pattern itself reached a phase when other dimension have more to do with the normal world. The importance of this time moment as the moment of the last battle, means that exactly in this time period the Wheel allows to the Bore to come in alignment with the world.

So the ghosts appear because all dimensions come into phase alignment now (that's why this moment is so important). DO has special chances in this case, because he is also coming into alignment with the Wheel's time.

I happen to think the Last Battle will involve every soul, alive or dead, in the climatic battle. So I'm pretty much in agreement with the premise, and rooting for you. However, I'm stuck in the back corner behind all the naysayers.

But I don't see that it's necessarily the seals that are keeping Limbo and the real world apart. I think that could just as easily be the Pattern itself. Either the pattern is deliberately thinning that barrier for the Last Battle, or it's been damaged, by the DO or by balefire use, or something else.
