o Harbor New Ahridol

by Korell: 2003-03-26 | 3 out of 10 (6 votes)

Previous Categories: Padan Fain

I think that is by and large a great possiblity i think that So Harbor could easily be the next Ahridol..we have not seen Fain a whole lot plus that might explain all the weevils not the mention the "Ghosts" that have been running around town the only other time that RJ mentions somthing similar is when writing about Shadar Logoth so it would stand to reason that this might be a distinct possibility Fain hates the dark one and has now come to power via mordeth i think it would stand to reason that he would repeat history i think that he could have somthing to do with the town and he could be turing the town to somthing like it was before and stealing peoples souls much the way he tried to steal the souls in the eye of the world when the boys disturbed him let me know what you think.

This is a good idea, but next time grab all of the quotes that will make a better case so people don't reply asking for you to substantiate it. :) Here are a few for you. Do we have any inclination as to why Mordeth would have gone to this area or that he has been in that vicinity? Doesn't Perrin know what that evil smells like and would he or would he not be aware of it? Can you specify as to the parts of Aridhol that are like this town? Aren't weevils being found in many parts of the world? Are all of the weevils from Mordeth's influence? How about the ghosts? Keep plugging away at this theory, you have a ton of loose ends to tie up. :)

I thought that Mordeth in TEOTW didnt want to be in Shadar Logoth anymore, that that was the reason why he appraoched Mat, Perrin, and Rand.

as you will recall, Aridhol was a MAJOR city. It is roughly the equivilent of Caemlyn. Why would Mordeth choose a small village to create an empire. it just doesnt make sense.

Anubis: 2004-02-13

yeah callandor. mordeth doesnt WANT to be confined anywhere. he wants to be free to spread his... um.... mordethy goodness.

There are some more things that need clearing up before I can take a side on this one.

1. There is a quote that may support your theory:

- And weevils thriving in winter, in freezing cold? There was WORSE WRONG IN SO HABOR THAN SPIRITS WALKING, and every instinct told him to leave at a dead run, without looking back - (CoT, Chp 26: In So Habor) - Emphasis mine

The problem here is that ghosts have been seen in other places - Jurador, I think a maid saw one in Caemlyn, and some other places I can't rememvber at the moment. Weevils have also been seen in other places. I think there there is mention of some found in the grain at Egwene's SAS camp (not sure about this though)

There are more quotes that may have some similarity with Shadar Logoth in the same chapter as the quote above:

He smelled something else, a smell he should know. A fierce yowl deep in the warehouse turned to rising cries of pain that dies abruptly. Perin's Hackles stirred again, but surely there was nothing here the dark one would want to spy on.

This chapter is a gold mine and since this isn't my theory I won't add more quotes. Like Tam said quotes are always good for support and there are heaps of good ones to help you answer the many questions that have been asked. What else ties So Habor to Shador Logoth? Do you think Fain is actually there to cause these changes? etc.

That was me by the way

Everyone who has replied has asked great questions and made good points. I can't believe that mordeth would want to spread his "mordethy goodness" to such a small place. This is the first time we have heard of So Harbor, so it can't be a major power in the world the way SL used to be. Also, Fain has this consuming obsesion with seeing Rand dead. Why would he break away from that path to create a new SL? If some one can answer that question it may give this theory some credence. By the way, Korell, punctuation would make your theories easier to read ;}

More and more Fain is growing in power. In tEotW, fain took about a week of proximity but limited contact to ruin the minds of his prison gaurds in Sheinar. Later in the series he can do things to people by touching them, sense evil in people (those who have, or have consider, swearing oaths to the DO), and do all kinds of bizzare things.

Moiraine claimed constantly during tEotW that fain's effect would produce something similar to fain, capable of generating the same effect.

So Harbour would not be his new home, as pointed out above. But if he stayed there for a few days, this could be the result.

**So Harbour would not be his new home, as pointed out above. But if he stayed there for a few days, this could be the result.**

Ah, so every place he has been to, since, oh let's say TSR, for more then a few days, is a likely place to look for a new Shadar Logoth.

Well then, count Tar Valon, Caemlyn, outskirts of Cairhien (and most like, or by extention, the city itself), and Far Madding.

All of which, do not exhibit as far as we know things close to So Habor.

People. Fain was last seen in Far Madding. He has absolutely no reason, by chance or purpose, to go anywhere but where Rand is. Rand, has not been near So Habor in his entire life (closest would be into Altara).

Fain only went to the Whitecloaks (Whitecloaks are an extention of what he did in the Two Rivers, and that was directed all at Rand), Seanchan, Tar Valon, and the rebels in Cairhien, so that he could make sure they would not support Rand (Seanchan really aren't included here since that was more a trap to simply kill Rand once and for all, but, eh). Everywhere else he has been, is where Rand is.

So Habor has none of Rand's allies. No reason to suspect of having any of Rand's future allies. And most important of all, So Habor does not have Rand in it.

The Fain POV in LoC when he's in camelyn indicates he limits himself to contact with darkfriends. It also gives an oblique mention to his intentions to spread the taint of Aridhol.

I'll have to dig out the quote for you guys.

quote "People. Fain was last seen in Far Madding. He has absolutely no reason, by chance or purpose, to go anywhere but where Rand is"

fain has all the reasons he needs. why would he use the whitecloaks in the earlier books, and why would he meet with aes sedai as well? in the earlier books he planned his moves so that he would make it less likely that people would trust rand. and about ghosts running around, i dont know if that has owt to do with fain. in book 11 one of the rebel aes sedai sees a ghost of someone who died when she was a novice (which was over a hundred years ago) and even if fain was in the aes sedai camp, how would he know about that particular aes sedai? i wouldnt bet that all the ghost are people killed by mordeth/mashadar/fain its too typical

Callandor: 2006-04-01

**fain has all the reasons he needs. why would he use the whitecloaks in the earlier books, and why would he meet with aes sedai as well?**

As per Jordan -- he wanted to establish a power base and make sure they didn't side with Rand.

However, Fain quite obviously gave up on that, since after Riatin he went after hunting Rand again. And what is in So Habor that would be so grand with a power base? We never even heard of it until Crossroads. Fain wants to kill Rand (and Mat and Perrin); not establish a new Shadar Logoth.

**and about ghosts running around, i dont know if that has owt to do with fain.**

How can it? Fain is one man, not a changer of reality -- the ghosts are clearly the work of the Dark One's influence.
