P and TP from the DO

Previous Categories: The Wheel of Time

The reason that early man in the WOT couldn't channel was because both the OP and the TP came from the DO'S prison. The DO is sealed up tight and so the access to the op and tp are sealed off to the world. As the Do tries to break free, the prison weakens and some of the power leaks out through the cracks. This activates latent genes in future channelers.

The DO and Creator are both 'aspects' (or possible members of the same species for you alian fans)of the same thing\being and assumedly are both on a different 'plain' to the Randland earth. The DO is 'trapped' on his plain (his prison) and influences the world though a hole between the plains that allows him access (the bore) assuming these holes are a fairly rare occurances, the source of op in the first age was newly commented on when L bored through the existing patch from the last turning, it makes sense that the creator has to use the same gap\portal from his realm.

The tp has hypothetically less power than the op and the op is superior to it. Maybe the flows of it passing into the world are also 'thinner' and it could slip between the cracks. If rand totally remakes the do's prison then the cracks of seams wont be there and the power cant flow through, the end of the OP aswell...

I disagree. Lanfear senses the TP within the DO's prison. If the OP made its way into the world through that same spot, I am sure she would have noticed the OP too. As far as the BWB says, the DO and Creator are two distinct personages, and the DO has been locked away in a specific place outside of the Pattern. The problem with your theory is the lack of source material from the books that might suggest the type of relationship you are theorizing.

The OP comes from the Creator; the TP from the DO. They are the same thing, with a few differences: the TP cannot be sensed by anyone (except the one weaving it), the TP is much more addictive, the saa come from lots of TP usage, a person will die eventually from the advanced stages of the saa and TP usage, and the TP comes from the DO not the Creator. There is no "strength" difference; strength is based on the channeler not the weave or Power.

Not only that, but there were channelers before the Bore was created, so the One Power could not have been sealed away there. When Rand is in the glass columns seeing the history of the Aiel, one of his ancestors thinks about how he was tested, but didn't have the spark. This was before the bore when the DO was completely sealed away. Not to mention the oath rods, and other terangreals and the portal stones etc. that require the use of the power and were in use long before the bore was made.

I was just wondering where it was said in the WoT that there was a time when man couldn't channel, because I haven't seen, in that universe, any reference to man not being able to channel at one time.

**TITLE: Eye of the World, CHAPTER: 12 - Across the Taren

"The One Power," Moiraine was saying, "comes from the True Source, the driving force of Creation, the force the Creator made to turn the Wheel of Time." She put her hands together in front of her and pushed them against each other. "Saidin, the male half of the True Source, and saidar, the female half, work against each other and at the same time together to provide that force. Saidin" - she lifted one hand, then let it drop -"is fouled by the touch of the Dark One, like water with a thin slick of rancid oil floating on top. The water is still pure, but it cannot be touched without touching the foulness. Only saidar is still safe to be used." Egwene's back was to Rand. He could not see her face, but she was leaning forward eagerly.**

TP from DO, OP from Creator. Not anything other then that.
