aim is Moridin

by Darkness Incarnate: 1998-07-31 | Not yet rated

Before Winter's Heart - Archive Only: Who is Moridin?

Reasons:
Several times Rand mentions his unexplainable dislike for him, which to me suggest he will be revealed as a villain in future books He has been using the Power for ten years now. he should be insane now. That is unless he was using the True Power. I remember some reference to him having stated he visited the blight, ( where he probably gained use of the True Power) Also I don't think it is Bed whatever because if he was one of the original Forsaken he wouldn't have to settle for the True Power, since I seem to remember some remark made by one of the Forsaken that if you used it to much it caused mental instability. Only a latter day person would use the True Power over the one Power if they were male.

One of the major points that would help your theory stick would be the comparison of the descriptions RJ gives of each character. This combination would sure be interesting to test.

Is there a hint about Taim/Moridin in Joseph Campbell's HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES?

(Obviously this is going outside of canon, here, but bear with me).

I was reading the classic HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES and was struck that, in part, what jordan has done is made a singular hero that, instead of going on one singular hero's journey instead goes on a gigantic adventure that, roughly, encompasses ALL of Campbell's various tranformations of the hero (warrior, lover, emperor/tyrant, world redeemer, saint).

Now, it's no secret that Rand has, among many influences, a lot of Abraham in his story. So, with that in mind, check this excerpt of the tale of the Death visiting Abraham:

"Abraham said to him, 'And art thou, indeed, he that is called Death?' He answered, and said, 'I am the bitter name,' but Abraham answered, 'I will not go with thee.' And Abraham said to Death, 'Show us thy corruption." And Death revealed his corruption, showing two heads, the one had the face of a serpent, the other head was like a sword. All the servants of Abraham, looking upon the fierce mien of Death, died, but Abraham prayed to the Lord, and he raised them up. As the looks of Death were not able to cause Abraham's soul to depart from him, God removed the soul of Abraham as in a dream, and the archangel Michael took it up into heaven."

-Joseph Campbell, HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES, Hardcover page 357

SO, to summarize this little nugget, Death reveals himself by way of showing a *sword and a dragon*! Plus, the tale puts Michael (M'Hael) as being involved.

Again, this is hardly a smoking gun, but I found it very, very interesting as we look toward the last book.

@Sugarbullet - I think that's a great find. RJ obviously used many sources for his inspiration. Quite often he twisted them in a way that so that you can't see where they came from or are almost unrecognizable in their final form. I'd say, I wonder what Taim is going to be up to if he's Death!

Nice find!
