oT bold Seanchan ideas

Previous Categories: The Seanchan

Fact and conclusion:

Fact 1. Tuon was not surprised or concerned when she was kidnapped and she never tried to escape. She has also disappeared before under similar circumstances according to the Deathwatch Guard.

Conclusion 1. The Seanchan have a route or door to the Finn world and Tuon has also visited them. She has been waiting a long time to be kidnapped by her future husband, and might have even arranged it in the past with other suitors.

Fact 2. In a short time, Tuon revealed her love for Mat (cluster of rosebuds), heard that the Sul'dam can channel and revealed herself as DotNM, even though Mat was riding to keep their secret. She would not have revealed herself except to leave the circus or marry Mat (which she cannot do if Mat is supposed to be in love with Egeanin). Then the epilogue indicates that the Daughter of the Nine Moons wants to make a treaty with Rand.

Conclusion 2. Remember, in CoT RJ plays with the time frame constantly. So I think between the chapter 'Something Flickers' where all the Mat-Tuon stuff comes out and the Epilogue, Tuon retakes her Seanchan throne and decides to ally with Rand after talking with Mat.

Fact 3. She has learned that she can channel and has been exposed as a channeler but is composed enough to reveal who she is on the same day. She wants to ally with Rand (I presume Rand's terms include freeing the Marath'Damane). She is not uncomfortable around the Aes Sedai when Egeanin is healed. The Seanchan would have twice as many channelers if the sul'dam were not tied up with Marath'Damane.

Conclusion 3. She will work to free the Marath'Damane. She will want to learn to channel herself.

Your first conclusion...is so great. I never considered the possibility that the Seanchan have an access doorway to the Finns...and that she has been told the exact same thing, that she would marry Mat (in some Finn-like symbol for Mat.) I dispute your second conclusion. Suroth would need to use a title to get Rand to come, and has to act like the DotNM isn't captured therefore we should assume that Mat is still with Tuon far away from Ebou Dar and Suroth is setting a trap for Rand. I also disagree with the third conclusion. Tuon knows that the power of the Throne resides in the basis that channelers are meant to be leashed. She will not easily accept, possibly never accept, unleashed channelers of her own free will. She has trained many and it appears that she isn't very open to new customs of this world she is meant to rule. Just some thoughts...

I think the reason Tuon isn't surprised by her kidnapping is the damane Lydia Foretold it to her. That is why Lydia was punished by Tuon.

that would also explain why tuon got incredibly pissed off at first and then, because she is a decent person, apologized to the dammae in the only way she could. she as much as admited that she was wrong to punish in the first place... not somthing i would ever think of one of the blood doing.

Tuons remark about Lydia is strange. She seems to think that all the damane can Foretell right on the spot.

With Elaida it seems to be very rare, very spontaneous, and not specific to any one person.

I'm wondering if the Seanchan have some people like Min, who can see certain things about people sometimes. However, Mins power doesnt involve the power. So how could a damane have it?

The issue of how Foretelling works is discussed in the "Prophecies, Foretellings, and Talents" section.

during the age of legends, the foretelling was called at will. Well maybe only if there was somthing to fortell, but the aes sedai definately had some control over it. They could prolly choose when to attempt to fortell, and when they had seen all there was to see, would come up blank.

I don't know about the route to the Finn thing. I somewhat felt the behavior of Tuon regarding Mat was linked to a Seanchan prophecy (remember that some prophecies of the Seanchan we only faintly heard about, such as the "dragon, reborn kneeling to the Crystal throne). And Tuon is certainly strongly influenced by the "omens".

Anyway, you might have a point here. I had not thought about another finn door.

As for the dotnm really trying to talk to Rand, I don't think so. I feel it is "simply" a trap from the High Lady Suroth to collar Rand.

But, who knows...

And, apart from the theories, I find it a fine twist for Mat to be forced to marry a woman who can channel... :)

I think more importantly, Tuon may the deciding factor when she figures out she and all sul'dam can channel. she will feel disgust but accept the fact that sul'dam have lived in society well for many many years, and now they are revealed to channel. Very fitting.

And im sure as someone has said earlier, that sul'dam, as respected members of society, can probably have children, i bet you there kids on higher perecentages channel more often than others, and its probably considered a kinda of disease gotten from damane.

Anyone follow me?

Well anyways, i think most of the Seanchan, under Tuon, will be at Tg on Rand's side. But im not sure if damane will be freed. They may have to work out something, like the damane will register with Egwene's new white Tower.

She hasn't revealed herself as the Daughter of the Nine Moons that we know of yet. Luca and Latelle already knew she was. Mat mentions a couple times that they knew everything of his situation.

Regarding Conclusion 1:

We know that Lydia foretold for Tuon her future. There is no reason to suspect that they have a door to Finnland. Lydia very probably told her that she would soon marry, and that her husband would 'remember the face of the High King' (remember Tuon posed this question to Mat out of the blue).

Regarding Conclusion 2:

I cannot believe that you would take this seriously... that RJ would *not* write about Tuon coming back into the fold of the Seanchan when Furyk has just begun a whole plot line of searching for her, when we know that Suroth is a darkfriend and having Tuon out of the way is just *too* convenient for her to trap Rand, when that would mean that Mat would have to go with her to the Seanchan...

...with all of that, you think that RJ would just skip ahead to Tuon already being back in power and in place for Rand's delegation? No way. This is Suroth, probably with Anath/Semhirage directing things, either lying to Rand or using a stand-in DotNM da'covale trained for just this sort of purpose.

Regarding Conclusion 3:

It is a clean story for her to want to work to free the damane (by the way - marath da'mane are those who *need* to be collared, not those who *are* collared). It would be a clean story line, but would it be truthful to her character? Not immediately, I think. She's not going to turn on a dime and go from in-born centuries of repression of channelers to accepting them fully, even if she realizes that she herself can channel. She should first feel dirty, maybe even blaming herself in some way. Then she grows as a character and she overcomes that and works to free the damane.
